Mixta was created in 2024, with the award of an NSF Phase 1 SBIR to create an AI-native immersive learning platform.
We have deep expertise in the learning sciences, simulation technologies, and AI.
Jeanine A. DeFalco, CEO
Dr. DeFalco is the founder and CEO of Mixta Ré, Inc., a woman-owned startup transforming how people learn and work through AI-powered, immersive training tools. Mixta Ré's flagship platform uses generative AI and XR technologies to create adaptive, competency-based learning experiences, accelerating workforce readiness and job performance.
With a combined experience of over 20 years as an educator and learning scientist, Dr. DeFalco has designed and evaluated immersive simulations and adaptive instructional systems (AISs) for the military, medical, and vocational workforce sectors. Her work bridges cognitive psychology, AI ethics, and learning engineering to create impactful, human-centered learning environments.
Professional associations include serving as Vice Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Artificial Intelligence Standards Committee (C/AISC), and Chair of IEEE's P2247.4, Recommended Practice for Ethically Aligned Design of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Adaptive Instructional Systems.
Dr. DeFalco is also the co-editor of "The Frontlines of Artificial Intelligence: Ethics and Human-Centric Perspectives on Technology's Advance," which contributes to the understanding of the intersection of AI, psychology, and ethics.
Travis Falstad, CTO & EVP Product
Travis Falstad is an accomplished product leader with over 20 years of experience building 0–1 products that have served millions of users and driven over $10B in revenue. He began his career in the music industry at a time when file sharing upended the entire business model, instilling in him a deep conviction that constant innovation is key to sustained growth. Over his first decade—ranging from the music industry to AAA gaming—he observed how successful companies reinvented themselves, insights that continue to shape his approach to product-led growth, strategic business transformation, and leadership development.
Most recently, as VP of Product at Talespin, Travis guided the company's evolution from a services-based business to the world's leading immersive learning platform, culminating in its acquisition by Cornerstone OnDemand (now supporting 140M users). Prior to that, as Head of Product for defense contractor Creative Technologies, he spearheaded the development of a new system for training U.S. intelligence analysts—adopted by more than a dozen federal agencies.
Randal Staewen, VP of Engineering
Randal Staewen is a seasoned XR software engineer with nearly a decade of experience building immersive products at the intersection of AI, web, and real-time 3D. As VP of Engineering at Mixta Re, Randal drives full-stack and machine-learning development.
Previously, Randal spent three years at Talespin Reality Labs, spearheading an XR authoring tool, analytics suite, and cross-platform player application that helped scale the platform—now serving 140 million learners following its 2024 acquisition by Cornerstone OnDemand. Earlier roles include building AR/VR automotive visualization solutions at Evox Images and developing multi-device immersive applications at Optech4D. Throughout his career, he has mentored engineering teams, transformed prototypes into production-ready products, and delivered high-performing experiences to enterprise clients and end users alike. Randal holds an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Houston and a B.A. from the University of Southern California.
